In World War II Bentley Priory was the headquarters of Fighter Command. The “Battle of Britain” was coordinated from Bentley Priory. Before the Air Ministry acquired Bentley Priory it had been a home, a girl’s school, and a hotel. There is a museum at Bentley Priory that tells the story of the Battle of Britain and how it was won. It explains the importance of ‘The One’, Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Downing, ‘The Few’, the pilots that flew the planes to defend the skies, and ‘The Many’ the work of others that ensured that victory was possible.

Putting on the armour of God
